New Minecraft Skins With Default Minecraft Skins Recall Steve's Beard

Mojang has changed the default Minecraft skins, Steve and Alex and Minecraft Steve's beard is finally back after years sporting a clean-shaven look. The iconic blue-shirted avatar of the crafting game, Minecraft Steve's original avatar featured a brown goatee - which many players mistakenly believed was smiling smiles - however, it was removed in an attempt to offer a more gender-neutral look for the sandbox game's default character.

Minecraft Alex was introduced in 2014 as an default skin. With a green top and longer red hair that is tied into a ponytail, Alex offers a slightly more feminine look than Steve's. Helen Chiang, the Microsoft Studio director for Minecraft has stated in a 2018 interview that the company wanted to challenge gender stereotypes and present Alex and Steve with similar physical characteristics and abilities.

Now, with the two options available to players it was decided to restore Steve's iconic goatee. The new skins were announced in an Minecraft subreddit thread.  tecelana They also improve Alex's shading, which gives the second model an authentic, three-dimensional appearance. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans excited to see Steve's original beard back.

Many of the commenters have said that Steve now matches the official artwork, including the appearance of the character in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. "I can understand why they originally took it off," says the most liked comment on the Reddit thread at the moment of writing, "but it was clearly an integral element of Steve's design and it seems that Mojang also agrees. It's wonderful to see it back after many years.

Jasper Boerstra, Minecraft's lead artist, commented on the change via Twitter. He wrote, "I'm glad you like the return of the beard!" Boerstra also noted the traditional techniques for banding and 'pillow shading" are used in the new skins, but asked players to weigh on whether this choice was a good one. The skins also include classic options, if you prefer the old-fashioned styles.
